The aftermath of protests ignited by police shooting in Charlotte
Demonstrators started a fire and shut down part of Interstate 85 early Wednesday and about 12 police officers were injured and squad cars damaged when protests erupted after an African-American man was shot and killed by another officer. His name: Keith Lamont Scott.
Police began using tear gas and flash bangs to disperse demonstrators, who police said had been joined by “agitators.”
Today is International Day of Peace.
Eric Waugh, a Guinness World Record holder, is marking the day with a 2,500 square foot painting of John Lennon.
It’s the “world’s largest painting on canvas by a single artist.”
Tigers in Thailand’s Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary
Globally, the tiger population has grown as well. In 2010, 13 countries signed a pledge to step up conservation efforts and double the world’s tiger population by 2022. Since then, according to a recent report from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Global Tiger Initiative, the number of tigers has increased from 3,200 to 3,980. The report notes, however, some of the growth may be due to improved survey methods.
